An Indian Odyssey by Martin Buckley

Martin Buckley who came to India and fall in love with two things:India and Ramayna. He decided to follow the path of Ram and subsequently created this great book ‘An Indian Odyssey’(as Homer’s Odyssey).

He followed the journey undertaken by Rama from his birthplace at Ayhodhya in northern India to the final confrontation with Ravan in Sri Lanka. He travelled, perilously on occasion, by motor bike, bus, train and light plane.

Buckley has the ability to bring people and places alive in a few words. From Ayodhya, along the Ganges and through the cremation ghats at Varanasi, he visits all the sites, or supposed sites, associated with Rama. What evolves is a picture of modern India in all its beauty, squalor, corruption and kindness. It’s not tourist India, but the India inhabited by Indians and the storyteller in Buckley conveys it to perfection.

He told the story of Rama in a style along with his journey, his words create the perfect picture of the places which belong to Rama or connected to Rama.He also shows the real impact of Ramayana on Indian people and how modern India took shape and accept the Rama as god.

A must and slow read, this book need time and it’s slowness is it’s sweetness.
