Twilight in Delhi

“Dilli Dor hai” while reading this book you feel this quote from your heart.Because Dili which is described in this amazing book was so far from us around 100 years and it’s colorful life will never come alive again, but with the eyes of Ahmed Ali, We can taste the real Shahjahanabad (now old Delhi).

Ahmed’s story based on life of elite Delhi gharanas and their situations after 1857 to 1919.The situation was awkward for them as they were no longer the elite and their emotions around that reality were the real theme along the way the culture of that time of Shahjahanabad. There is romance, tragedy and drama, there is fine prose, pulsating history.

In his essay entitled “Some Reflections on the Novel” Ahmad Ali himself writes: “The Novel is not an imitation but representation of life and its changing shadows, reflecting their movement and directing the changing scene of human activity in all ages and societies…. For the canvas of life is too vast and can be presented only in the moments of shattered desire or contemplation calm and rising hopes and ambitions. In all forms it shows man and society their true semblance, and life, its picture which, in the movement, life itself does not often understand.”
