Letters From Iwo Jima
A movie about the war of Iwo Jima from the prospect of Japanese point of view.A war remains war whether we win it or loss it.Clint Eastwood made two movies about Iwo Jima war one from the prospect of winner and another from the point of view of who suffered the loss but he take both the movies to human level not the level where we create heros and villans.
It’s a very silent movie and very deep in its sense, not very entertaining like Saving Private Ryan, but magicly true about war,It starts with japenese soldiers digging hole to save their Island and shows the agony of life of soilders who some time don’t even know why they are fighting and what will be the benifit,General Kuribayashi who was a very brave and kind hearted general is the main protagonist who motivates his men to fight against Americans till end but he was not all the way aginst US but he was doing his duty.Same with the case of Saigo who was a baker by profession but come all the way to a desert island to save his fatherland, such a irony of life.Look at the conversation between two,
General Tadamichi Kuribayashi: You are quite a soldier
Saigo: No, just a simple baker
This movie again proves that some people nourish talent within themselves like Clint Eastwood, started as a young angry man and turn himself into a sensitive master director with movies like ‘Flags of our Fathers’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby’ to ‘Letters From Iwo Jima’.
Nominated for 4 Oscars including best direction and best picture of the year in 2006.A sensible Japanese movie about war and piece, and more on human nature.
Just watch this for humanity within war.
